Ramiro Funes Mori moved to Goodison Park in August 2015, joining Everton from Argentine giants River Plate on a five-year contract.

His first season brought 37 Club appearances in all competitions for the Blues, resulting him quickly forging the reputation amongst Evertonians as a blood-and-thunder central defender.

He also contributed in with important goals, including a memorable strike against Manchester City in the Capital One Cup semi-final first leg at Goodison.

His form for Everton resulted in opportunities with the Argentina national side and he spent the summer of 2016 playing in the Copa America. 

He started every game during Argentina’s quest through to the final, where they were pipped to glory on penalties by Chile.

Everton paid a £9.5 million fee to secure the left-footed central-back, who had helped his former club win the Copa Libertadores - the South American equivalent of Europe’s UEFA Champions League - less than a month before arriving in England.

Funes Mori made a total of 108 club appearances for River Plate, scoring a healthy return of 10 goals in that period.

Funes Mori is the second Argentinian player to represent Everton, following in the footsteps trod by forward Denis Stracqualursi who spent the 2011/12 season on loan with the Blues.
