Loan Round-Up: McGeady Rescues Draw

@Everton

Aiden McGeady was the hero for Preston as he netted a 93rd-minute equaliser to earn a 2-2 draw at Blackburn Rovers on Saturday.

Having taken the lead through Tom Barkhuizen’s early effort, Simon Grayson’s side fell behind as goals from Elliot Bennett and Craig Conway turned the game on its head.

However, with just seconds of the contest remaining, McGeady was picked out in the box and drove the ball past goalkeeper Jason Steele to score his fourth goal in eight outings.

The result left Preston, for whom Tyias Browning was injured, ninth in the table, five points off the play-off positions with eight league matches left to play.

HOW OUR OTHER LOANEES FARED

Premier League

Tom Cleverley – Watford – Played 80 minutes and was booked as a second-half Troy Deeney own-goal condemned the Hornets to a 1-0 defeat at Crystal Palace.

Oumar Niasse - Hull City - Ineligible to play against Everton.

Brendan Galloway – West Bromwich Albion – Wasn’t involved in a 3-1 home win over Arsenal.

Championship

Callum Connolly – Wigan Athletic - Came off the bench after 54 minutes as interim boss Graham Barrow’s first game in charge ended in a 2-0 defeat against Aston Villa. The result at the DW Stadium leaves the Latics 23rd in the table, seven points adrift of safety with just eight games to play.

Gethin Jones – Barnsley - Played the full 90 minutes as the 11th-placed Tykes suffered a 2-0 loss at managerless Norwich City to fall 11 points off the play-off positions.

League One

Conor McAleny - Oxford United - Managed the full 90 minutes as The U’s climbed to ninth and within five points of the League One play-off spots with a dramatic 2-1 victory over Scunthorpe United. After Paddy Madden had put the visitors in front, former Everton midfielder John Lundstram levelled with his first goal of the season, before Phil Edwards turned in Curtis Nelson’s shot to steal all three points in injury time.

League Two

Conor Grant - Another to get a full 90 minutes as Donny edged ever closer to automatic promotion with a thumping 4-1 win at the Football League’s basement side, Leyton Orient. The victory leaves Darren Ferguson’s side top of the table, 17 points clear of fourth-placed Stevenage, needing to seal a top-three finish to climb up to League One.

Antony Evans - Morecambe - Sat out a 1-0 defeat at second-placed Plymouth Argyle.

Calum Dyson - Played 71 minutes as the Mariners relinquished a 1-0 lead to draw 1-1 at home against Crawley Town.

Scotland

Russell Griffiths – Motherwell - Unused substitute in a 2-1 home reverse against St Johnstone.

Europe

Gerard Deulofeu - AC Milan - Celebrated his recall to the senior Spain squad by playing 90 minutes in a 1-0 home win over Genoa. The victory, courtesy of Matias Fernandez’s strike, was a fourth in five games for the seventh-placed Rossoneri.

Leandro Rodriguez - Waasland-Beveren - No match.

Shani Tarashaj - Eintracht Frankfurt - Wasn’t involved as Die Adler halted a run of four straight defeats with a 0-0 draw at home against Hamburg.
